National Volunteer Week, April 17-23, 2005

I would like to take this opportunity to make all of our clubs and regions aware that Volunteer Canada has designated the week of April 17–23, 2005 as National Volunteer Week.

This is a week to celebrate, acknowledge and highlight the achievements of our volunteers. It is an opportunity to celebrate important milestones, to allow volunteers to relive their experiences and to promote the wonderful gift of giving and sharing.

Volunteer Canada has chosen the theme of Volunteers Grow Community and encourages organizations to hold special celebrations to raise the profile of volunteerism in their community.

Why not try to schedule your April Board Meeting, Club Annual General Meeting, or your annual Awards Banquet during this week. Set some time aside during this meeting and truly celebrate the work that all these individuals do for the betterment of your skaters and your club. Send an invitation out to all your volunteers inviting them to this special evening to celebrate their volunteerism. Remember, taking time to plan a special evening to thank all of your volunteers shows them that they are truly respected and appreciated. It will encourage them to want to come back!!

For further information, check out the following web sites:

I do look forward to hearing from you and I do welcome suggestions for future topics. Please e-mail me anytime at vaneng@golden.net.
